This is what can happen to child murderers. Worth a read.
- Subhan Anwar found dead at HMP Long Martin last night
- Allegedly held hostage in prison cell before he was killed
- Tortured and murdered Sanam Navsarka and was jailed for 23 years in 2009
- Two prisoners, aged 45 and 47 arrested on suspicion of murder
Two prisoners were today being questioned on suspicion of murder after a sadistic child killer who tortured his partner’s two-year-old daughter to death was found dead in his cell.
Subhan Anwar, 24, who was jailed for a minimum of 23 years in 2009 for the murder of Sanam Navsarka, is understood to have been held hostage in a cell at HMP Long Lartin in Worcestershire before he was killed.
His partner Zahbeena Navsarka was cleared of her daughter’s murder but found guilty of manslaughter and jailed for nine years.
Anwar and Navsarka, from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, were condemned for their cruel and selfish treatment of Sanam when they were jailed three years ago.
During their trial, Bradford Crown Court heard how the two-year-old had all her limbs broken, had been locked in a cupboard and was put in a tumble dryer.
Her tiny hand prints and bloodstains were found inside cupboards at the home in Huddersfield and also at a former property in Batley, West Yorkshire.
The pair blamed each other for the child’s death.
A post-mortem examination revealed her arms and legs were broken and there were 107 injuries across her body, including 36 bruises to her head and neck, 26 to her arms and ten to her abdomen.
Two ‘tramline’ bruises on her thigh showed where she had been battered with metal poles. The court also heard how aftershave has been splashed over her nappy rash and open sores.
Not once did her mother take her to a doctor for treatment.
A West Mercia Police spokesman said: ‘West Mercia Police has launched a murder investigation after a 24-year-old man died in Long Lartin prison last night.
‘The body of the man was found by prison officers just before 8pm on Thursday, February 14.
‘Two men aged 47 and 45 have been arrested on suspicion of murder and are currently in police custody.
‘West Mercia Police is working closely with the Ministry of Justice to establish the exact circumstances surrounding this man’s death but it is unlikely any further comment will be made today.’
Eventually their failure to help Sanam killed her. Fat deposits from her broken bones entered the bloodstream and caused her death.
The couple told the 999 operator and paramedics that she was left alone in the bath for ten minutes by Anwar, who returned to find the lifeless body.
Sanam was indeed naked and had wet hair, but her skin was dry and the post-mortem examination showed she had not drowned.
A Prison Service spokeswoman said: ‘An incident at HMP Long Lartin on Thursday February 14 resulted in the death of prisoner Subhan Anwar.
‘Two prisoners are now in police custody and the matter is being investigated by police.’
