Broadcasting legend, and friend of the Royals Stuart hall has been charged tonight with with rape and 14 counts of indecent assault in relation to alleged offences between 1967 and 1986, reports Lancashire.
The 83-year-old is charged with one count of rape allegedly committed in 1976 against a 22-year-old woman.
The 14 offences of indecent assault allegedly took place between 1967 and 1986 against 10 girls aged between nine and 16.
The veteran BBC star has been bailed to appear before Preston Magistrates’ Court on February 7.
The obvious question in my mind is why has a 58 year old woman decided now is the right time to make these allegations against “friend of the royals”, Hall? But I suppose it’s easy to forget just how famous Hall was in 1976, a major BBC star, he may well have appeared, like Savile to be untouchable.
Does anyone remember “it’s A Royal Knockout”, masterminded by the current Earl of Wessex, full name Edward Antony Richard Louis Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, or Ted Windsor for short.
Well, in those days, he was the pretty boy of the family, lovely fair hair, before it fell out. He tired a career in the Marines, but that wasn’t quite his bent, so he had aspirations towards TV production.
The whole show set the credibility of the Royal family back years. No that’s not quite right, they had no credibility at the time, and the whole show showed them up for what they really are, it was an embarrassing disaster.
Lucky for Hall, he managed to get some close friends to help give it some credibility.
So, as Hall did have connections at the very top of society, you can perhaps understand why alleged victims didn’t come forward sooner. But now the untouchable Savile has been exposed, perhaps it’s time to get all of the skeletons out of the closet.
